According to the Shiva Mahapuranam, there was once a conversation between Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. When Vishnu asked Brahma who the supreme creator of the universe was, Brahma arrogantly claimed that he was the supreme creator and should be worshipped. One day, Brahma's fifth head spoke ill of Lord Shiva. In response, Shiva assumed the fierce form of Kaal Bhairav and severed Brahma's fifth head with a small nail from his finger. After this, Kaal Bhairav held Brahma's skull (Kapala) in his hand. This act destroyed Brahma's ego, leading him to become enlightened. Following this incident, Brahma became deeply grateful to Shiva.
